Vatican: Francis stable, out of ‘imminent danger’ of death

The Vatican reported Saturday on the health of Pope Francis which is that he is still at Rome’s Gemelli hospital under care of the doctors  while his prognosis is still complex the pope is no longer in “imminent danger” of death.

On that Friday the Holy See Press Office reported that Francis’ health is now stable which means that we may see less health updates from here on out unless there is a major turn of events. The 88 year old pontiff has been in the hospital for four weeks and is a patient of double pneumonia.

Medical reports from the pope’s doctors which have been almost a daily affair since his admission to Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14 will be issued only when we have new info the press office said Friday. They reported that Francis’ health is improving but that it will take time to see the improvements last.

This means that the Holy See will no longer put out the daily morning report of the Pope’s night activities which leaves only the evening update for the journalists.

The Vatican has put forth that this is a “positive sign” for the Catholic faithful which in turn means that no news is good news.

Francis is into his medical regimen which includes motor physiotherapy Friday. According to the Vatican, he uses noninvasive mechanical ventilation at night and receives high-flow oxygen via nasal cannulas during the day.

Francis at a young age had a lung removed which was due to a pulmonary infection and for the past few years has been dealing with repeat cases of bronchitis.

On that Thursday the press office reported that Francis had marked the 12 year mark of his papal election out with health care staff.

During the Christian season of Lent which coincides with part of the Pope’s hospital stay. Lent is the 40 day period of the year which starts on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. This year Lent began on March 5.
